Muscat: Beginning May 1, Friday and Saturday will be
the official weekend in the Sultanate for both the public and private sectors,
according to a statement issued by the Council of Ministers.

The statement said, "In light of the care afforded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to reduce the gap between benefits given to employees in the government sector and those in the private sector and to strengthen family and social ties because of their positive effect on the psychological stability of all employees in the state, His Majesty has issued a directive to standardise religious and national holidays in accordance with the periods identified in Royal Decrees related to this issue.
根據聲明：在卡布斯蘇丹陛下的恩澤下，為了減少公務人員和私人部門職員福利的差距，同時加強家庭和社會的連結，有助於穩定工作人員的心理平衡狀態。陛下直接頒布：於皇家法令中統一規範宗教和國定假日。
"In keeping with the rest of the world on economic matters, especially banking, commercial transactions, and imports and exports, His Majesty has issued a directive to adjust weekend holidays for employees in the public and private sectors to fall on Friday and Saturday, beginning May 1, God willing," it added.
聲明中寫道：保持和其他國家的經濟活動連結，尤其是金融業、商業和進出口貿易，陛下頒布調整周末假期至週五週六，一切都是上天所賦予的。

The statement also noted, "Within the framework of His Majesty's concern for the social and living conditions of the citizens of Oman, His Majesty has issued a directive to increase the capital offered through easy housing-loan programmes to OMR100 million, starting from this year and continuing for the next two years. It should be noted that borrowers from the Housing Bank have previously been exempt from fees on housing loans.
聲明中同時註明：國王陛下考量阿曼人民的社會和經濟狀況，陛下頒布從今年起至未來兩年，為了增加資本可提供簡單住房貸款計畫可貸到1億里亞。之前已向房屋銀行借貸且免繳費用的人須特別注意。

People from all walks of life have welcomed the move to standardise the weekend as a positive one. Earlier, with the exception of the banking sector and a few others, most companies in Oman had the weekend on Thursday and Friday.

The move to standardise the number of religious and national holidays for employees in the private and public sectors has also been welcomed.

"This will encourage Omanis to join the private sector without assuming that being in the public sector means they will get more privileges," asserted an observer.
